So you’re considering doing some home remodeling projects and it is difficult to decide which the better choice for a particular room is. Would it be better to use wallpaper or to paint it? There are certain advantages as well as disadvantages with either choice.
The advantages of painting are that is it is very easy to do even if it is done through a contractor who does commercial painting. It’s done and over with and ready to enjoy in just a short amount of time. It is a very quick way to instantly make a difference in a room. Using paint can help accentuate fine details and can also cover some of the less appealing parts of a room. Painting is one of the most preferred decisions for quick home remodeling as it is generally the less expensive option as well as being done quickly.
There are some disadvantages of choosing paint too. Even though it is quickly applied, it takes time to dry; the actual length of time required for it to dry will depend on how much oil is used to make the paint. It has to be done perfectly to avoid runs or other marks. Some paints have a “bleeding” quality that makes them very difficult to paint over effectively. Painting has to be done in solid colors, even though some texturing is possible. Painting has to be redone frequently to keep it fresh looking.
Wallpaper has several advantages. The main thing is that it can last as long as 10 to 15 years when it is applied properly. This can make it more effective economically than paint. Since wallpaper is available in a wide variety of prints it can bring character to the room. Wallpaper can help accentuate angles or key features in a room such as a fireplace or built in shelving units.
There are only a couple of disadvantages associated with this option. In areas where there is high humidity the paper can begin to come unglued. It can be more difficult to clean if it gets stained and it is expensive to replace.
